Thread for Memefefe's Squad.

Here is something we must discuss: What will we do for Narriac's competition?
The theme is "Mystery", so most will probably do point and click games. We need something unique. Any ideas?

Haha I get to be captain! Awesome! Ok so a few ideas I had are
1)Simple rpg probably using Jan's lib and maybe no fighting just collecting items to unlock the next part of the game
2)A text and maybe one picture per room game similar to princess tomato for nes (look it up you can play online)
3)Something thats hard to explain, kinda point and click? So it's one background per room on the top screen then have on the bottom several buttons for doing things like "Interview" if someone's in the room (and maybe have a list of questions you can ask them) or "Examine" and then list the items you can examine or "suspects" (ps this one would be murder mystery style) and then have a page of all the suspects so far and a little about them and a pic of them or other buttons we can think of. Also it would have the characters overlap the top screen background when they talk like a Layton game, I'm not sure if we could fit the text box on there too with the layer limit and all.

4)This would be similar to 3 but more like a "Choose your own adventure" book where it's possible to mess the whole game up if you make a wrong decision on the beginning.

I've got more gameplay ideas and a few story ones too so just tell me what you guys think!

Also I think we should decide who's gonna be working one what. We can held out in all areas but each of us needs a specific department to be head of

I like idea number 4, although they are all great. I'm pretty good in the programming department, but probably all of us are. Maybe I could work on the story? No, your pretty good at that yourself, Meme. What should I work on?
EDIT:
I just got an idea! Just give me a minute to post a drawing of it!

I'm actually not super great at story, I'd need some help with the main idea/outline of the story but then I could elaborate on it. Ive found a few songs that I thought might go well with the game too.

Here's my idea on the gameplay:
Comp.Idea.png

You can use the stylus for tapping and observing things. You can walk around like in a platformer. Press (for example) "L" or "R" to swap screens so that you can change the stylus's function using the buttons. Text could be put next to the mugshot of the player (here Luke is used for an example).
What about that?

I think your "squad" are the only people entering; so you'll win whatever happens.

and commodore your gameplay idea is pretty cool! So you would press L or R and the screens would swap, then you could tap a button to switch the stylus function from examine to lets say interview. Then you press L or R again and now you could tap a person to speak with them? This probably isnt what you had in mind but if it is it seams a bit well not very fluent

heres a little something I drew up based more on the number 3 option
when you tap a button on the bottom screen you could then be presented with a list of things that you could examine. or if you taped a suspects button then you would be presented with pictures of the suspects and info that youve collected so far

What you said in the post after my idea is almost exactly what I had in mind, just make it a platformer and it's it. If you don't like the idea, that's fine. But remember; we don't want this to be too similar too "The 15th Floor" or any of the Professor Layton series.
With #3, it could work. I just think that it shouldn't be all stylus. It would be nice to see some actual movement in the game in my opinion.

We might be able to morph the two together... oh! I just had an awesome idea! It might be hard to do though, so have it like yours but instead of swaping the whole screen when you press L or R have the little panel of buttons drop down to the bottom screen. So that a banner of buttons came down to the top of the bottom screen. What do you think? Might be a bit hard hmm. Ill keep thinking about this some more ok? I normally keep things like this on the back burner all day and until I can fully work something out. I see what you mean about it being too professor layton, I think incorporating the ability to mess the whole thing up by doing something wrong in the beginning causing you to maybe die and have to start over later in the game would be good.

ps what do you think about this music for like the title screen

and then this for BG music during some parts

Haha! You guys are funny. If you didn`t want anyone else on this thread, we should use some IM chat thing.

I`m good at graphics(If I do say so myself :) though I hate making them since it`s so time consuming. But I guess I could help you on that part.

I`m also good at music, sounds etc. I have loads of those kind of resources.

Programming; well, I wouldn`t say I`m the greatest but I`m not terrible at it.

So about the game we shall make...

I like the idea of an RPG game with no fighting because:

1. It makes life alot easier
2. Less complicating time consuming code to kill you.
Though I could make you a simple one.
Upcoming games I'm working on:
  • Minecraft2DS
  • Bow Man DS
  • Bird poo!

I think were kinda headed into the direction of a platformer rpg type thingy with no fighting and the ability to screw things up by making a wrong decision and not even knowing it.

I actually would like to do some of the graphics. But we're gonna run into a problem with the story, I can expand on a story if Ive got something to jump off of. Not to good at starting them. I was thinking murder mystery cuz thats classic but we could put a twist on it or add in some stuff that messes with your mind.

Yeah! Murder mystery sounds great! Hey, I already have a really good platformer engine on hand, so I can soop it up for an example of my idea. I do believe there is a "Swap Screens" action somewhere. As for the music, could you upload an .mp3 file, please? I'll get working on the engine right away.

The music that you found, Meme, is great! So far in my demo I'm using the 8-Bit version. (The regular has Japanese lyrics). As for the demo, it's going great so far! I'll PM you it's progress.
