Bobbyloujo wrote:Those of you who know me could probably guess why I bought it. Yup, there's a Kingdom Hearts game coming out for it :-) It won't be out for a while but due to the early price drop I had enough money to buy the system now. So I've been playing around with it although I have no games yet. It is really cool and has lots of features. The 3D works well and the augmented reality is cool. I've noticed the resolution of the screens is better (that's something I was hoping for). Despite all of these good things, I have a list of complaints as well...

Complaint #1- It's ugly
Just as ugly as the pictures suggest. I got a black one so at least it all matches. With the other colors the top half on the inside is always black. It just doesn't look good. It isn't the least bit sleek. All of it's parts seem to be different colors and the bottom half seems to be cut into two layers for some reason. The back where the charging port and the game slot is just uncolored metal. The top half juts outwards at an angle when it really doesn't need to. In fact, it looks like the top half has a layer of clear plastic over it that makes it bigger and gives it it's weird shape.

Complaint #2- The stylus
The location of the stylus holder is different. It's on the back instead of the side. This makes it very awkward to get to. I actually thought it didn't have a stylus at first because I couldn't find it. Also, the stylus itself is different. It's extendable. That's alright if you have both hands free to extend it. Unfortunately, you're probably only gonna have one hand free because the other is holding the 3DS! It's difficult to extend the stylus with one hand.

Complaint #3- The bottom screen
It's smaller than the DSi's screen. I was hoping it was going to be at least as big as the DSi. Also, they're still using the same touch screen technology. No multi-touch here!

Complaint #4- The volume control
It's a slider just like the DS Lite. I prefer the rocker switch on the DSi. I also like how you can adjust the DSi's screen brightness by holding 'select' and using the volume switch. This can't be done with the 3DS because it uses a freaking slider. Instead you have to hit the 'home' button, wait for the home screen to come up, touch the sun, touch the brightness level, touch ok, hit the 'home' button again, and wait for the game to come back up.

Complaint #5- So called "Multi-Tasking"
Alright, so you can take some notes, look at your friends list, look at your notifications, or use the internet browser while playing a game. The only useful thing there is the internet browser. But it's not like you can pause your game, take a picture of something, and then go back to your game. Not true multi-tasking if you ask me.

Complaint #6- The charging dock
It's made of plastic and just feels cheap. I'm wondering how long it'll last. Also, there a little switch on the dock that the 3DS pushes down when you set it on the dock. Sometimes, though, the weight of the 3DS isn't enough to push down the switch and you have to give it a little push yourself.

Complaint #7- Augmented Reality faults
Someone once said that the 3DS's AR played without lag. Untrue. That's all I got to say. Move even slightly quickly and it'll lag. Also, it doesn't work at all from a distance. You have to stay roughly 14 inches away from the card at all times. Other than that, the AR is cool. I only with the AR minigames were longer.

Complaint #8- One fatal design flaw
The bottom screen and the three buttons below it pop up from the rest of the bottom half. There are some bumpers on the edge of the top half that keep the bottom screen and buttons from touching but after repeated use I can see those bumpers getting worn down. When that happens, the bottom screen and buttons may make contact with the top half and could cause serious damage.

Complaint #9- Backwards compatibility
It plays DS Lite and DSi games. The problem is, the screen resolution is different. It puts black bars on the edge of the top screen to keep the aspect ratio the same which is alright. But since the amount of pixels in that area is bigger, the image has to be stretched across those new pixels. This can make things like text look blurry. I'm glad I didn't get rid of my DSi because I'm definitely not going to use my 3DS to play my DSi games.

I think that's it...

Don't get me wrong, I like this system. I'll like it even better when Kingdom Hearts: 3D comes out. It's just that they screwed a lot of things up with it.

EDIT: wow that's a long post....

Oh and my flashcart doesn't work on it. Dang it.

3DS sucks ! a DSi is even better than the 3DS ! i'd rather have a used DSi than a new 3DS!

lol jokes dsi sucks. 3ds rules!

PS2 = Great, third best console ever.
PS1, PS3, PSP and all other Sony games consoles = Not the same touch as PS2, not nearly as good. PS1 is ok though.

NES = It's ok, it has nice sounding music and the graphics look cool, it also introduced loads of great games like Mario Bros. Don't own one so can't say much 'bout it.
SNES = The best console ever made. 'Nuff said.
N64 = Brilliant, graphics are perfect because the quality is between the PS1 and PS2 and has the fuzzy TV feel to it, Goldeneye, Super Mario 64 and many more. Second best console ever. I have spent many hours on it.
Gamecube = Ok, some games are good, has a nice controller, I never play much on it though,
Wii = Not as good, first Nintendo console to loose the classic feel, gamecube almost did. I never owned a Wii myself but theres something about it, it might be that you have to put batteries in the remote and configure everything and the default colour is white rather than black and it focuses on HD rather than the fuzzy TV, but that new feel to it is what ruined it for me. It doesn't feel like a Nintendo console.

I've never played a SNES :/ I've played NES games though. That was back in the day when people actually came up with original game concepts. Now it's all FPS and RPG. I'm not a huge fan of the N64... I've only played one a few times but I just don't really like the controller. I don't have 3 hands... I like my Gamecube just fine but there aren't that many good games for it. I mean, there's Super Smash Bros and what-not, but what if I want a good, compelling story? There are maybe 3 Gamecube exclusives that are like that. And my wii... it was fun for the first week I had it... now it's been 5 years and I never use it. I thought I was gonna get some use out of it... but then Epic Mickey made me so disappoint.

Oh, and the wii wasn't HD until a few months ago I think... they originally didn't have an HDMI port.

Well I had an nes but the constant wire wiggling was just too much for me although I LOVED the games, look up nemo the dream master. I've borrowed my uncles snes before and it's awesome!!! Loved the games! But again the wire wiggling was too much. I've never played an actual n64 although I loved paper mario and super Mario on it (played on emulators). Still rockin the GameCube! It has some really good games, super Mario sunshine is almost better then super mario galaxy, Mario kart for it plays nicely, and smash bros is great. I never was much into RPGs when I was heavy into my GameCube so I don't know about deep storylines. Wii is very umm innovative, you gotta give it props for that. The games are ok ish I mean galaxy was fun but it could have been better and new super Mario bros was fun but only with a bunch of people. I find the wii awkward for playing long stretches by yourself, like its more pick up and play then sit down and game. I'm excited about wiiu, looks like Nintendo is really trying hard to cater to their real gamers rather then casual gamers, the possibilities for it seam amazing!!

If you keep your NES in good condition, you wont have to do that.

And nes/snes games run really good in emulators anyways so it's not too much of a big deal
