Programming Competition

Postby Nirraic » February 4th, 2012, 3:25 pm

As far as I know this is the first User created competition on these forums,
I just hope I don't screw it up : P

Theme
Mystery - (you can decide what I mean by that)

You can use DSGM 4.9 or DSGM 5.

The deadline is 3rd June 2012 (your local time)

Other Notes
I encourage people to start working on ideas now, I'm giving you over 3 months to work on this, so I don't want anything rushed as I expect well made games.

if you plan to work in a group you may have a maximum number of 3 people in it (1 person for programing, 1 person for art, 1 person for sound & music)

MEGAMAN X wrote:I have a few questions about this competition.
1.Is this competition for anyone who wants to join?
2.Also, how will the winner be decided?
3.Are there any rules? Example: Forbidding the placement of already made graphics, actions or scripts inside a game and calling it your own.

1,Anyone can enter

2,The winner will be decided by me and maybe some of my friends, and we'll look at things like how fun the game is, how good it looks and how well the music goes with the game.

3,if you use any pre-made resources just give credit to the person who made them.

More information will be announced close to Deadline

Prizes

Due to Bobby's comment i'll give you a rough idea of the prizes:
please note these might not be the actual prizes and are only a rough idea of what they will be
Code: Select all
1st:  Minecraft (seeing that most people on this forum don't have it) or cash prize equivalent + if it group entry $5 AU or US (which ever one is stronger at the time) per group member (please don't have 20 man groups I'll go bankrupt :( )

Judges Favorite: $15, if group wins the money will be split equally between all group members

I'll announce prizes closer to the deadline as well as they might change due to my financial situation

Good luck!

Hmm... Interesting. Do you have any ideas on what the prize might be? People are going to need some motivation if you want them to participate. I'll try to come up with something.

I have a few questions about this competition.
Is this competition for anyone who wants to join?
Also, how will the winner be decided?
Are there any rules? Example: Forbidding the placement of already made graphics, actions or scripts inside a game and calling it your own.
The reason I think up things that no one in their right mind would think up, is because
I'm not in my right mind....

I'll definitely enter for a chance at $15. Mystery makes me think point and click puzzle game... I've never made one of those before. I'll do that :)

guys try and think outside the box, 'mystery' doesn't need to be your main theme you just need to include it in somewhere

along as your game includes the theme anywhere in it, its golden, the theme is only a small part of the competition, what I'm really looking for are fun to play and quality games.
