On my suggestions, you missed the most important part: open source. If you are serious about making this succeed, you really need to keep the DSGM open, and allow the community to work on it. A project this large will fail otherwise.
And please, don't release a demo without a menu, with a single character moving left / right to no animations, and call it a success. You really should make sure all of the basics are working well.
An "open source", Smash Bros like fighting engine for the DS that allows community members to create & add characters would be a huge hit, I think. Consider MUGEN, for PC.
Just my two cents..

100% agree
A game must have a menu always even if its a demo!
JanMulder wrote:Ever since DSGM 5 was released a lot of noobs have been attracted. A lot of good programmers have left. So basically the only thing we get here is "moving left / right" games. Which is also what DS Game Maker is made for: noobs who don't know programming can make a "moving left / right" game. DSGM 4.9 was way more advanced. People really learned how to program, which made good games.

That's the point, I doubt they can even do that properly.

I don't blame them though. If I make an example in DSGM 5 I have to use the Execute Code action a lot due to the lack of actions. I can understand that noobs just think things aren't possible when there's no action for it.
What is the difference between DSGM 4.9 and 5? Anything other than the actions? Can the actions be used with DSGM 5?

a bunch of noobs coming along and stealing it

Impossible. It's currently already possessed by a bunch of noobs.
