I think that this would be difficult to make in DSGM, but not impossible. Please, don't get too over-ambitious. Start small, and work from that. Make a basic menu, a single stage, and a single character working before you even consider a character list.

On my suggestions, you missed the most important part: open source. If you are serious about making this succeed, you really need to keep the DSGM open, and allow the community to work on it. A project this large will fail otherwise.

And please, don't release a demo without a menu, with a single character moving left / right to no animations, and call it a success. You really should make sure all of the basics are working well.

An "open source", Smash Bros like fighting engine for the DS that allows community members to create & add characters would be a huge hit, I think. Consider MUGEN, for PC.

Just my two cents..

A game must have a menu always even if its a demo!

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic, but I just meant that if you are going to start an extremely ambitious project, release an impressive demo - not something that took a couple of minutes to create.

As you said in the first post, people are going to be doubtful. Make something impressive!

That's the point, I doubt they can even do that properly.

Ever since DSGM 5 was released a lot of noobs have been attracted. A lot of good programmers have left. So basically the only thing we get here is "moving left / right" games. Which is also what DS Game Maker is made for: noobs who don't know programming can make a "moving left / right" game. DSGM 4.9 was way more advanced. People really learned how to program, which made good games.

I don't blame them though. If I make an example in DSGM 5 I have to use the Execute Code action a lot due to the lack of actions. I can understand that noobs just think things aren't possible when there's no action for it.

What is the difference between DSGM 4.9 and 5? Anything other than the actions? Can the actions be used with DSGM 5?

Well, making a post with a massive character list and having no other large projects completed does make you look a little noobish. Also, you don't have anything playable to show. Planning alone won't get a project done, you've got to make something. And until you put out a decent, or any demo, people aren't going to take this too seriously. Are you working on a demo? What is your progress?

I'm not trying to be mean, hope it doesn't come across that way!

if I let this as a open source your going to find a bunch of noobs coming along and stealing it

dont worry none was taken offensive

that huge character list was just for fun I only put that there so some of the characters that were picked would go into the game :o

and the stage list want very big :|
