3D in dsgamemaker?

Postby AGds » December 3rd, 2011, 7:04 pm

Can someone please clear up why dsgamemaker allow 3D models to be loaded in to a project like ds app studio (a ripoff of dsgamemaker: http://www.awsomisoft.com/) does?

p.s. last time i checked, loading 3d models into a program didn't require coding so whats going on?

DS Game Maker is a 2D program.

You can get DSGM to load 3D models on the screen after a lot of hard work, but it starts to get very complex after a while and I wouldn't reccommend it for a new user like yourself.

If you desperatly want to make 3D DS games then try and make one with DS App Studio first; you wont get very far with it.

Lol... it's kinda funny how DS App Studio keeps getting brought up. Every time you think people have forgotten about it, someone brings it back up.

But yeah. Like Yoshi said, 3D is a bit complex in DSGM. Learn to work with 2D first.
Seriously never posting again, lawlz.

Hehe, yeah you guys should all listen to AGds, he clearly has more experience than you all. To think we thought loading information from a 3d file and displaying it on a DS screen would take coding! Textures, cameras, lighting etc; all that working on a DS is just done for you if you just load the 3d model! :D

In seriousness though, who uses or has produced a game with App Studio? The screenies glanced there show only one screen being used, and not well.. and the website uses way too many fonts on the one page to read well or professionally. It's a ways off competing with DSGM in terms of project status and features

Yeah, I know, ds app studio sucks. Anyways, things like lighting, textures and bump mapping can be done in the 3d program you use. Then, you load the finished model into the game making program. Or at least that's what they taught me at school.

Yeah, except the DS is not a computer. We cannot simply make a '.3ds' file (make in Autodesk) then import it to DSGM with the hope that it somehow works just like that.

DS App Studio uses LibNDS directly, DSGM uses PAlib, an extremely outdated library that's no longer supported. Hence, DS App Studio > DSGM. Sure, it's harder to use, but it gives you more possibilities. Obviously Visual Studio C++ tops both, everything depends on what you're expecting from the program and what's the difficulty curve you can bear. I personally don't like DSAL, so I stray from App Studio, but I acknowledge that it's a "better program".
Current Projects:

FalloutDS: Postponed until proper libraries are created, 10%
Foxi_Lib: A completely revised version of NitroSprites[FINAL], NitroBackgrounds and NitroText[FINAL], 40%

Nothing to be found at the 'Awsomisoft' website. You might think DSGM is abandonware. But at least we still have a site and generate an income!

Well, welcome be back. I plan to sort a few things out here.

See you around.
