You are only new, it takes a little time to get up to scratch but the point of DSGM is making it easy. Try the tutorials and ask for help where you get stuck

It's good to be keen for an area of game dev also like graphics, but seriously helps you do that if you have a basic idea of what it's like to implement these in a game by making even basic games/projects. That goes for file sizes, file format, color count, animation, movement etc of your graphics. What makes a good size for an icon, a character, transparency colors etc. You should work on some sample backgrounds and sprites if graphics are your thing to show off what you can do, that's how you will attract a programmer to your idea for a project, or get yourself involved with another that you will enjoy! :D
